Bathrooms are such an important part of the home. Not only are they a very functional room in the house, they can also be a space to relax, take time out and unwind. We’ve surely all enjoyed a long soak in the tub, or an energising and refreshing shower.

This balance between function and the need for ambience can be underpinned with lighting. When lighting a bathroom, there are several ways to introduce lighting that is perfect for whatever task, from brushing teeth, to bathing children, through to unwinding in a bubble bath.

The best approach is to use different layers, including elements such as recessed downlights to create that sparkle above the basins, pendants and wall lights to add warmth and low level lighting such as uplights, floor washers or niche lighting to create interest and soft, glare free lighting.

This will allow for a variety of scenes to be set, that can be matched to the needs at the time.

We recommend that lighting in the bathroom is dimmable as is it the perfect way to get the balance between task lighting for the day and a more ambient glow in the evenings with just the touch of a button.

A PIR sensor in the ceiling can be the perfect addition to the bathroom and can be programmed to ensure the low level lighting only comes on when using the bathroom during the night, to avoid any glare and bright light which are not wanted at night.
